Wine in Tuscany forms a solid foundations of its tradition and culture and what better way to appreciate the wine by visiting its origins. Explore and learn the history of “Chianti” by seeing the hills and vineyards that have made this particular wine one of the biggest names across the world. These hills will create an amazing backdrop for a tasting of this wine.
We will start with a guided tour of “Castello Banfi” a stunnig 13th century village located near Montalcino, which today is an independent vineyard. Hear we will explore the castles wine cellars where you will be able to experience the different stages of wine production from the vines all the way through to the bottling but most importantly the different steps in the process to create “Chianti” and “Brunello di Montalcino”. After our caller tour you will be able to sit back and sample some of the wines yourself along with some of the cured meats that are produced locally.
To understand the origin of the wine, its essential to explore and understand the history of the bottle and glass. For this we will head over to the “Glass Museum” which translated in English means the museum of glass. Within this museum you will be able to see and admire some extremely old and rare wine bottles and the wine glasses that have been developed for the enjoyment of wines with some examples coming from the Venetian glass area. In the “Balsameria” we will explore the secrets of an ancient traditions which has been passed down for centuries within the castle known as the Etruscan balsamic vinegar which is obtained from the aging of the grape juice which makes this product a perfect partner to most dishes.
Our tour will then finish in Siena, hear you will able to explore the astonishing sights that Siena is famous for. Some of the sights that you will explore with us will be the “Duomo”, “Palazzo Comunale” in the “Piazza del Campo”. With its unique structure in a shell shape the Piazza is the home to one of the oldest horse racing activity called the “Palio” that has been hosted at the Piazza for centuries. The Palio happens twice a year during the summer season.

The guided tour of the Castello Banfi winery takes about an hour. The winery is 5 km away from the Castle.
Wine tastings will be available at Enoteca del Castello, both before and after the tour (for a fee).
